MOODBOARDING
Moodboards can save you time, money and your sanity!
You may have the experience of diving headfirst into a web design project, only to get overwhelmed by the design possibilities. There are steps in the design process to cut down on the unknown and this is usually in the form of a mood board.
Early in a project, What Users Need will lead a design workshop with members of your marketing, communications or brand team. This session will allow you to gain a greater understanding of your current brand perception, key objectives and future direction.
Incorporating all the information gathered from the analysis and research stage, the design team will develop and present early mood boards. These will show examples of similar organisations, competitors and illustrate early design ideas to gain early direction and identify likes and dislikes.
The moodboards will conceptualise early examples and show different directions that your brand may wish to adopt in meeting the customer needs.
What Is a 'brand moodboard'?
A moodboard is a collection of images (photos, graphics, textures) that together display a distinctive, cohesive theme.
It is a visual tool for designers & business owners to put across their ideas for a brand's personality.
And what do I mean by a theme? Here are some elements that might make up the theme of a moodboard by having common threads throughout the images:
- Colour palettes
- Font choice
- Textures & patterns
- Photography style
- Feeling/emotion
